About Northwest University

Founded as Shaanxi College in 1902, Northwest University first received its present name in 1912. In the period after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, Northwest University was one of the 14 comprehensive universities under the direct jurisdiction of the central government’s Ministry of Education. Now the Shaanxi Provincial Government administers NWU. In 1978, it was designated as one of the key universities in China.
